How to Uninstall Mod Engine 2 [Complete Guide]

Mod Engine 2 is a popular mod loader for Elden Ring that allows users to install and manage custom mods. While it does not modify core game files, fully removing it requires careful steps to ensure all mod files, configuration files, and related folders are deleted. This guide provides an accurate step-by-step method for a clean uninstall.

Step 1 Close Elden Ring and Mod Engine 2

Before deleting any files, ensure that Elden Ring and Mod Engine 2 are completely closed.

  1. Exit Elden Ring if it is currently running.
  2. Check the system tray for any Mod Engine 2 icons. Right-click and select Exit or Quit.
  3. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl, Shift, and Esc.
  4. Look for any processes named ModEngine2.exe or related to Mod Engine 2.
  5. Right-click each process and select End Task.

This prevents any files from being locked during deletion.

Step 2 Locate the Mod Engine 2 Installation Folder

Mod Engine 2 is usually installed inside the main Elden Ring game directory. The default locations are:

Steam Installation:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elden Ring\

Epic Games Installation:
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\EldenRing\

  3. Delete the configuration file ModEngine.ini.
  4. Delete the mods folder if you want to remove all installed mods.

Step 4 Remove User Configuration Files

Some configuration and cache files may be stored in the AppData folder. Removing them ensures a complete uninstall.

  1. Press the Windows Key and R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type %appdata% and press Enter.
  3. Look for a folder named ModEngine2 or similar.

Step 5 Verify Game Files

After deleting Mod Engine 2, verify the integrity of Elden Ring to ensure no core game files were affected.

Steam Users:

  1. Open Steam and go to your Library.
  2. Right-click Elden Ring and select Properties.
  3. Go to Local Files and click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Epic Games Users:

  1. Open Epic Games Launcher and go to your Library.

This will restore any altered or missing files to their original state.

Step 6 Restart Your PC

Restart your computer to clear temporary files and ensure no leftover processes remain. After restarting, Elden Ring will run in a fully unmodded, vanilla state.
